Givers

Students

Givers is a students association for international volunteering. It is based in Sophia University, Tokyo and currently has more than 100 members. At Givers, our focus spans three core pillars: nature preservation, animal welfare, and supporting underprivileged children. In Japan, we engage in monthly beach cleanups, facilitate adoptions for shelter animals facing imminent euthanasia, and offer companionship to children navigating poverty and bullying. We also participate in multiple events to raise funds and use them for bigger projects.

Givers’ works and achievements have reached multiple medias such as the Asahi News Paper, and websites such as Mirasus SDGs, Japan Times, and Find Sophia (Links below at the bottom).

Our flagship initiative, the El Salvador project, is our cornerstone endeavor. Annually in March, we collaborate with two elementary schools and one high school in the Apaneca municipality, and neighboring communities around El Zonte beach. The core of this project’s mission revolves around empowering children in impoverished areas of El Salvador, offering them the necessary tools and opportunities to envision and achieve their goals. We aspire to provide insights into how their lives could significantly improve through education and skill development.

Founded in November 2022, Givers successfully executed the inaugural El Salvador project in March 2023. During this time, we conducted an intensive course of 2 weeks, ranging from dance, karate, Japanese culture, and English classes. Notably, for high school students, we delved into entrepreneurship by creating a feasible ramen recipe using locally available ingredients, fostering an entrepreneurial spirit by nurturing business ideas.

For 2024 March, we conducted the El Salvador Project with a comprehensive curriculum including Japanese philosophy, Bitcoin education in partnership with Cubo + —a reputable El Salvadoran organization—, English language training, video editing skills, and Excel proficiency. Additionally, we provided crucial resources including internet rooters, projectors, and screens.
Our goal right now is to create part-time jobs by engaging students in video editing tasks, compensating them via Bitcoin for secure transactions. These vlogs will serve as sociological research material for us, and as a means for a system in our SNS, where contributors can support the families directly through donations.

We hope you can enjoy our presentation of our new project, which aims to spread the idea of Bitcoin to the Generation Z!
